My Story

Hi! I’m Nate Murphy. Based out of Southern Indiana, I’ve grown up in a rural community for almost my whole life. My parents started a church when I was 11 years old, and like most pastor’s kids, I’ve grown up filling most of the different roles within the church. Through my teenage years I never had the fully-rebellious phase that’s famous in PK’s, but I struggled to determine if God was real or if Christianity was just a convenient system of rules designed to keep me in line. When I was 19 the Lord broke through in my heart and convinced me not only of His presence but of my need for Him. Since then I’ve continued to grow and be discipled and now serve as one of the assistant pastors at my church.

One of the things that has always stood out to me about Christianity is its amazing ability to speak truth across any situation or background. It doesn’t matter how artistic or mathematical a person is, how emotional or how logical, they can still find the evidences of God’s working in their situation. I firmly believe that christian music should be the same way. Of course it should be emotional, and catchy, and fun to sing, but it should also be biblical, orthodox, and full of truth that not only encourages the church but challenges christians to grow deeper in their fellowship and walk with the Lord.

My passion as a songwriter is to balance those truths. If you are looking for a co-writer who is willing to pray over songs, write worship for private and corporate settings, start with the scriptures, and also obsess over getting the right hook or feel in a song, reach out and get the conversation started. Shoot me an email here and let’s set something up!

Musical Background

I have extensive experience with Piano, Acoustic Guitar, and Bass Guitar. I was classically trained in piano from the age of 6, and have played bass and acoustic guitar since my early teens.

Performance

I’ve been on church worship teams for over 10 years, with almost 1,000 worship sets under my belt. Understanding the dynamics of a band as well as the church pressures of singing (and writing) theologically correct music is something I’m extremely familiar with.

Biblical Orthodoxy

I’ve grown up in a family and church background that has always emphasized biblical literacy and practical application. In that light, scriptural metaphors and references in music are much easier for me to find and incorporate.
